A 45-year-old Enniskillen man who drunkenly walked into the local police station was found with cannabis on his person.

Martin Logan, of Drumbawn Close, Drumclay was fined £150 at Enniskillen Magistrates Court after appearing via videolink from Maghaberry Prison.

The prosecutor outlined that on January 7, 2016 Logan attended Enniskillen Police Station to answer bail. The defendant, who intoxicated at the time was asked to empty his pockets, which he did and a small brown object, believed to be cannabis resin was discovered. Logan was cautioned for the offence and replied: “Yes, thank you.” The defendant was interviewed five and a half hours later after sobering up.

No information on the value and quantity of the class B drugs were revealed in court.

Defence solicitor Garry Smyth told the court there was “no sophistication” in the offence stating the defendant had simply walked into the police station, while under the influence of alcohol with a small amount of drugs.

The defence said it was “almost inevitable” he would be charged with the offence and highlighted Logan’s difficulties with depression. Mr Smyth explained that the defendant was in custody for other matters.

District judge Nigel Broderick imposed the £150 fine and given the fact the defendant was in custody issued an immediate warrant for the money.

The defendant further faces charges of common assault, possession of an offensive weapon, namely a chisel, with the intention of committing an indictable offence on January 1, 2016 and the criminal damage of a door on Christmas Day, December 25, 2015. Logan will next appear in court in relation to these matters on March 14, 2016.
