A 31-year-old wedding guest who threatened to blow a police officer’s head off with a shotgun has been fined £200.

Mark Keegan, of Somerset Gardens, Antrim was convicted of resisting police after an incident in the Manor House Hotel, Killadeas back in February 2015. The prosecutor at Enniskillen Magistrates Court outlined that on February 15, 2015 at 2.30am police were called to a disturbance at the Manor House Hotel and were directed by staff to a bedroom where Keegan and his partner were staying.

When police spoke to the defendant he was aggressive and swore repeatedly at them. He was arrested in relation to an allegation to the criminal damage of a hotel door.

When placed inside the police vehicle Keegan refused to sit on the passenger side at the rear of the vehicle and instead sat in the middle and struck the inside of the window with his hand cuffs.

The defendant had to be restrained, but continued to resist and made threats to police saying: “I will chew your f****** ear off” and “I will blow your head off with a shotgun”. The defendant further said: “I will slit both of your f****** throats”. Defence barrister Steffan Rafferty explained that his client had been attending the wedding of his partner’s sister.

The defence said there was a “considerable amount of alcohol” consumed and noted Keegan was “heavily intoxicated” when police arrived at the scene and did not remember acting as he did.

District judge Nigel Broderick noted the defendant’s limited record along with his early guilty plea and accepted that alcohol was obviously a major factor in the incident.
