My mum is amazing, I know everybody says this and thinks this but mine really is. She has overcome so many obstacles from health issues, to bereavement and has done so with poise, grace and a sense of humour.
Our relationship hasn’t always been plain sailing; in fact there was a particularly tempestuous period, throughout my teenage years, when, if I’m honest, I was a bit of an idiot. But we’re best buds now and that’s what’s important.
She’s looks after me emotionally, physically, mentally and spirituality. She’s not just there for me, she’s there for my friends should they need her, and I’ve seen her produce a literal banquet from an egg and a handful of nuts. The woman is an actual genius.
She really is the best mother in the world, although I’m biased. I’m lucky to have my best friend as my mother, and I can’t wait to spend some time with her on Mother’s Day. This is the first Mother’s Day in 10 years that I haven’t worked in hospitality so I’ll actually be able to spend it with my mother.
Here are my ideas for gifts and quality time with your mother bear this Mother’s Day.
AFTERNOON TEA – There is always a great deal of focus on gifts, and while yes our tokens of appreciation are of the utmost importance, it’s the experiences that we remember most. I know my mum loves afternoon tea, although as someone who doesn’t eat bread as a rule, she rarely gets to indulge herself. So I’m going to make sure, I treat her to this lovely afternoon tea from Marks and Spencer’s Cafe, that’s only £12.95 for two people.
HER LOVELY FACE – Your skin is the most important outfit you will ever wear, you wear it every day and it never goes out of style. So it is important to look after it and to make sure it gets the nourishment it needs. This serum and cream combo from Vichy available at Cara Pharmacy is amazing and they have a range to suit all skin types. I have my eye on the Neovadiol Compensating Complex Concentrate and Day cream, it suits my mum perfectly. Her skin can be a little dry and as much as I think she looks great, she is convinced she’s “starting to go south.”
THE LATEST KITCHEN GADGET – I’m not suggesting that by getting my mum something for the kitchen, I think that’s where she belongs. But she has wanted this particular contraption for a while now. Being the health nut that she is, she wants to be able to spiralise her vegetables with ease and without cutting her fingers to ribbons as well. So I’ll be getting her this Spirelli from Lakeland, it’s easy to use and Mary Berry has one just like it so obviously it is a complete necessity.
THE INVESTMENT BAG – A beautiful handbag is always special, and sometimes not something that mums don’t treat themselves to, even though they should. I love this Yellow Suede one from River Island. It’s practical enough to fit in all her bits and bobs and it’s easily carried on the shoulder for those moments when you need your hands to be free. It’s a lovely bright mustard that not only makes a nice change from brown or black but is also very on trend for spring. It’s also available in black if you mum prefers monochrome.
SOMETHING SHINY – Women of all ages will always appreciate a nice piece of jewellery, no matter what the occasion. So why not treat your mum to a beautiful piece from Argento. They stock several beautiful brands including Thomas Sabo and Nomination, but I think it’s time for something a little different. These lockets from Storie can be filled with little charms that are delicate and varied and look beautiful as either a necklace or a bracelet.
