FROM Fermanagh to the stage in Bournemouth, one Derrygonnelly student is definitely hitting the high notes as Director in his university’s performing arts society.

Seamus O’Dare is no stranger to the stage in Enniskillen, having been involved in lead roles for school productions.

As Director for Bournemouth University’s performing arts society he, along with other cast members are hoping to raise £1,500 through crowd funding for their latest musical production.

He explained, “We don’t get funding from the university, so much of our money comes from fundraising. We want to perform in a venue outside of the university to cater to a wider audience and so there is a cost involved with that. We have to pay for costumes and a band – students are traditionally skint, so we thought we could branch out and get our family and friends to support us.”

Other fundraising events have also been organised such as the society’s showcase night which will take place on December 9th and Carol singing.

The money raised will go towards the society’s musical production of ‘The Wedding Singer’ which based on the 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

Described as cheesy, upbeat and funny, Seamus and his team are already full steam ahead with rehearsals, “Everyone is just buzzing for March when we will perform the musical. So far we have finished Act1 and after Christmas we will start Act 2. – It just brings everyone together as we are all working towards the same goal.

“I always remember having those nervous jitters before getting up on stage and that was my favourite moment, which I want everyone to experience.”

Despite his new role as Director for the performing arts society, Seamus had a whirlwind summer working on the Hollyoaks set and as a Crowd Assistant Director on the set of Game of Thrones which is filmed in Northern Ireland.

“Home is definitely the place to be at the moment for those in media. – Game of Thrones was incredible. The storylines were so secretive and it really was a privilege to be a part of that.”
