Fermanagh boss Pete McGrath has spoken about his unhappiness with the way the Sunday Game panel highlighted specific incidents from the Ulster semi-final.

The Down man was frustrated with programme’s analysis of the encounter with Monaghan which drew particular attention to a clash involving Niall Cassidy.

“I think if the Sunday Game panel want to act as if they are the people administering justice as they see it and dealing with disciplinary issues then they should feature every disciplinary issue that has arisen in the game instead of being selective,” said McGrath.

“We know that there were at least two other misdemeanours by Monaghan players that could, in my view, have easily have carried a red card. One wasn’t shown and the other was passed over as just a hard tackle.

“At the end of the day they said what they said. I felt they were out of order and we’ve made that point and we can do no more about that.”

McGrath has also voiced his frustration with the standard of officiating in this year’s championship. In particular, he believes umpires should think hard before intervening in games.

“You are always at the mercy of referees,” said McGrath. “Many of the games that we’ve seen this year in the championship you could pick out quite a lot of refereeing errors. Referees are like the rest of us, they’re human, they will make mistakes. But in some cases the mistakes are quite horrendous.

“To be sending people of in matches for which they have trained a long time and made massive sacrifices to be in the team and to play for the county I think it’s not the right thing. I think the people who say these things should think very carefully before they open their mouths at all.”
