THE SOUTH WEST ACUTE HOSPITAL is ready and prepared should an Ebola outbreak come to Fermanagh.
Speaking this week the deputy chief executive of the Western Trust Joe Lusby told the Herald, that should the worst happen, plans were in place.
“We have the preparations in place, we have the staff trained, we have the personal protective equipment in place, both in terms of suits and that sort of thing and we have the patient flows organised as well.”
This week Mr Lusby revealed that as of Monday morning before 10am there were no free beds available in the Enniskillen hospital. When asked how staff would they cope if an Ebola outbreak happened in the county, he insisted provisions were in place.
“We have a designated area in the hospital in any case and we would use that.”
He continued: “In the event and it is most unlikely we would encounter a significant number of cases there would be no issue in us commandeering vacant space in the hospital if the need arose, although we can’t see that being the case.”
