IF keeping fit and staying active plays a part in your life, then you will understand how important it is to have the right attire, whether it’s clothing, footwear or the accessories.
How you stay fit will determine what you wear and it’s vital to ensure you are kitted out with the correct sportswear.
The good news is that sportswear has become somewhat of a fashion statement in recent years and the styles, shapes and colours available has branched across high street shops and designers lists, making it more appealing to get the gym gear on and hit the treadmill.
My biggest investment are my trainers – the Asics Gel Pulse 5 – as I do a huge amount of running during the week so I needed a pair that would stand the test of time as well as being light and airy.
I have gone through a number of brands and have always preferred Asics for running as I find the trainers are comfortable, light and give a good bounce – and I do like their range of colours and designs. They are retailed at £85, but I paid £65 from the website Sportsshoes.com where I buy a lot of my sports gear at a discounted rate.
Asics trainers can generally be quite expensive, but it’s worth paying extra to help give your feet the support it needs, otherwise you may suffer an injury easily.
For the rest of my attire I have a broad mix of brands including Adidas, Nike to cheaper brands including Karrimor and LA Gear. I would recommend spending less on bottoms, tops and jackets as I don’t believe there is any need to splash out on these items.
I like to have a range of running bottoms, or tights, from full length, to below the knees and shorts. As our weather is unpredictable, it’s good to have a choice, particularly if I’m going on a long run then I would go for shorts or three-quarter lengths. I usually spend between £15 to £30 on tights and £10 to £15 on running tops. Again, I would use Sportsshoes.com or Sport Direct in Enniskillen.
I have a good selection of tops for the gym, circuits and running – there’s no specific brand I prefer but I like vest-tops for the vast majority of my activities.
It’s also useful to have a reflective jacket while running on the roads, particularly during the dark evenings.
A well-fitted and supportive bra is an essential part of our attire while exercising as it ensures the bust is protected and helps prevent pain and strain during prolonged exercise.
It’s worth investing in a good sports bra and spending a little extra as the cheaper ones tend not to give the same support and comfort.
Try Shock Absorber, Impact Free Original – Royce Lingerie or Panache Underwired Sports Bra.
