New Belcoo housing scheme first of its kind

WOULD-BE tenants are being sought for a £900,000 10-unit social housing development at MacNean Court, Belcoo that is under construction.

The scheme costs approximately £1m, with £570,00 of that amount coming from of DSD funding, through the NIHE, and the balance from the developers, Ark Housing Association.

There are ten units, six three-person, two-bedroom apartments for the active elderly (with an apartment block lift provided), two three-person, two-bedroom houses, and two give-person, three bedroom houses.

The handover is due to take place on March 31 next.

The contractor  is Brendan Loughran & Sons Carrickmore, , and the architect is JNP Architects Belfast Ark Housing Association, whose head offices are in Belfast, have similar schemes throughout the North, but this is their first in Fermanagh.

A spokesman explained that a latent demand for social housing locally was identified by the NI Housing Executive, based on housing need and  housing stress.

The development incorporates two three-bedroom and two two-bedroom family homes, and six two-bedroom apartments for people aged 60 and over.

The spokesman said the properties are designed and constructed to a high quality standard, incorporating energy and environmental efficient measures and complying with both Lifetime Homes and Secured By Design standards.

He added: “Properties will be allocated to those interested applicants who have applied for housing through the Housing Executive’s waiting list. However, if you have not yet registered your interest, it is not too late to do so.”

New applications can be submitted directly to the Fermanagh District Office of the NI Housing Executive at Riverview House (tel 03448 920 900).

People applying are reminded to quote ‘MacNean Court, Belcoo East, Belcoo’ as their area of choice.
