FORMER Belcoo gaelic footballer, Pat McGowan well and truly scored when he picked up a cool €77,000 in last Saturday’s National Lottery Winning Streak Game Show on RTE.
In all, €259,000 in winnings were shelled out to the five contestants – the four others were from the South – with Pat bagging the biggest amount.
Sadly, Pat did not appear to be at home this week to take a ‘reaction’ call at his home near Holywell Church, but it can be assumed the popular family man is glad he is a customer at Clancy’s in-store post office in Blacklion.
There, a spokesman reported that, ever since Pat’s name was drawn out the previous Saturday, sales of the ‘Winning Streak’ scratch cards had gone through the roof, with customers vying to replicate his success.
“Yes, we do get quite a lot of people coming across from Belcoo. Pat would be a regular client, and, naturally, we’re happy for him.”
Locally, people share that feeling.
“People are delighted for him”, one man told us. “Pat would be well-known and well liked around here. He’s in his mid-60s and played for Belcoo in his time and, after that, he would have helped out with the club.”
‘Winning Streak’ Scratch Cards offer players the chance to win instant prizes of up to €50,000. Five players are selected each week to appear on the show, and one lucky player has the chance to win up to €1 million instantly on the Grand Prize Wheel.
The Winning Streak Scratch Card also offers players the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to San Francisco.
The show is based solely on chance.
There is no skill involved. Each Thursday in National Lottery offices, one hundred 3-star entries are drawn randomly in a preliminary draw that takes place under strict security controls.
From these 100 entries, the five players for the following show are drawn and their names are featured on the gameshow.
