BELLEEK businessman, Terry Hughes, has presented a cheque for over £13,000 to the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation just in time for Christmas. It follows his recent marathon charity challenge of running from Donegal to Dublin in just five days.
The big-hearted proprietor of TJ Hughes Service Station on the Donegal-Fermanagh border successfully ran five daily marathons in October and concluded his huge 130 mile challenge by running the Dublin Marathon. His route took him to Florencecourt, then onto Cavan, Kells and Dunboyne before finishing up in Dublin.
His aim was to raise £9,000 (€10,000) for the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation but he was well over target. The charity provides much needed nursing care and direct funding to families of children from birth to four years old with severe neurological development issues throughout Ireland, enabling them to take a break from the daily marathon of caring for their sick child.
Terry said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response from people near and far who have wished me well and been very generous. The staff at TJ Hughes have been fantastic, arranging fundraising days on the run up to my challenge. We are delighted to learn that this money will make such a huge difference to families throughout Ireland.”

“I would like to congratulate Terry on his amazing achievement and thank him and everyone who supported him most sincerely for this wonderful donation. I know how much hard work, planning and organisation went into taking on a challenge like this but I hope it was well worth all the effort when it has given our children an amazing 1,021 hours of home nursing respite care this Christmas – what a truly wonderful gift!” Mr Irwin added.
