Kevin helping to transform Roslea centre into arts hub

Kevin McHugh

WELL-KNOWN local artist Kevin McHugh has established a new home for his work at in Roslea Enterprise Centre. The Roslea Enterprise Centre has provided 12 open plan studio spaces to encourage art and crafts in the community. Artist Kevin McHugh was quick to take up a working space at the centre.
“The enterprise centre is a perfect space for me to work in. I have so much room and a lot of daylight flooding in through two giant windows, exactly what I need when I’m trying to get my colours right. It’s great too when I’m working on three or four commissions at the same time, I can work on one and when I’m waiting for a piece to dry, just set up another easel and start painting the next.
“I worked from home for years before that and didn’t have that luxury. A lot of my time is spent out and about painting murals and working on wacky Sliabh Beagh Arts projects so when I’m in my studio I like to close the door behind me and put on good music and work in solitude.” said Kevin McHugh.
The space could see Kevin being joined by other artists from the Fermanagh area who do not have a current space of their own. The availability of this space could only encourage and develop art and creativity in Fermanagh.
“The space opposite my studio is available to other artists to set up and work in a great environment. I think it’s a really good idea and will encourage people to create more. For most artists, all they are lacking is a good place to work so Roslea Enterprises are providing that and it can only be a good thing.
“The more people there are creating art, the more art there will be in Fermanagh, it’s as simple as that. There’s no downside that I can see.” added Kevin McHugh.
Currently finding his feet in his new space, the artist has big plans for the future that will definitely put his new working space to use.
“I love painting with acrylics and am at my happiest working with them but I’m also finding my feet with digital painting and am getting more and more illustrative work to do so I’d like to expand on that in the future. I have developed a love for writing from my mother and sister and I have plans to illustrate the stories I have written. I also have some really interesting projects coming up through Sliabh Beagh Arts, they always push my boundaries and these upcoming projects are no exceptions,” added Kevin.
