TYRE dumping at a scenic beauty spot in Fermanagh has been condemned.

Up to 80 tyres were due to be removed from Keenaghan Lough near Belleek this week after they were dumped sometime between Wednesday and Thursday last.

SDLP Fermanagh Councillor John Coyle has condemned those behind the incident: “I was shocked to learn that someone had decided to use an idyllic area like this as a dump for their used tyres. This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and I want to stamp this out before it gets worse.

“I don’t understand it because when you go out to get a new set of tyres there is money added into the cost that goes towards recycling the old ones. This really shouldn’t be happening – ruining a picturesque little area much loved by locals and tourists alike. I don’t know what the reasoning is of those behind it.

“Our natural heritage is a source of real pride for people living here. Those who undermine and destroy it like this are not welcome and I would encourage anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to get in touch with the council as soon as possible,” he added.
