THE CURRENT Rose of Tralee Elysha Brennan enjoyed a whirlwind visit to the county recently as the search for the next Fermanagh Rose officially begins.

Elysha, who was the Meath Rose, is  from Bettystown, near Drogheda, and is a  medical student at the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin.
She toured the county on Thursday last week along with Fermanagh Rose Aoife McCann.

On her visit to the county the pair enjoyed a trip to St Mary’s Primary School, Maguiresbrige, Aoife’s former school, her home house, where her mum runs K9 Kennels and had time to visit some of her main sponsors.

The Rose of Tralee’s visit  marks the launch of the search for the 2016 Fermanagh Rose with the county selection night set to be held on June 4, 2016.

Aoife, who hadn’t seen Elysha since she was crowned in Tralee back in August reflected on a “brilliant” day.

“Obviously it could have been anyone who won, but she really is fabulous, she’s completely her own person, but so kind-hearted, she’s so easy to talk to.”

With her own time as Fermanagh Rose coming to an end in June Aoife’s main aim in the remainder of her tenure is to encourage more young women to enter the competition.

“Why wouldn’t you enter? It’s something different, it’s a chance to get out there, meet new friends, even just an excuse to get dressed up. It’s all the little things, it all adds up.

It’s just the experiences, I’m going to Belarus in February and then I’m in the St Patrick’s parade in New York so the chances you get from it are just amazing.”

In February Aoife and some her fellow roses and escorts are travelling with Chernobyl Children International to Vesnova Children’s Mental Asylum in Belarus.

During her  five day visit in Belarus she will be helping to provide basic care for the children, whilst showing them much needed care and love.

Required to raise  €1,000 for the trip that money will go directly to the Orphanage to save, prolong and improve the lives of many boys and girls under their care. To donate visit Aoife’s My Charity page at www.mycharity.ie/event/aoife_mc_cann_fermanagh_roses_belarus_trip/
