A police spokesperson confirmed, “Police in Enniskillen are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a 19 year old man in the Mill Street area of Irvinestown on Monday morning, 21 December.

“At this stage the death is not believed to be suspicious.”

Parish Priest, Fr Michael McGourty who knew the family well said, “He was very well-known and his family were involved in construction. – He was light-hearted and very hard working. He worked at Kerry Foods leaving home at five every morning.

He also restored a cottage along with his father and enjoyed going out with his friends.

“Any time of year is awful for something like this to happen but especially at this time of year when a tragedy like this is unexpected.”

Joe Mahon from Mahon’s Hotel, Irvinestown said, “It is a big shock indeed to the people of Irvinestown. I would have known his family well. They are a good, hard working family who would do an awful lot of work in the community, particularly at the Chapel. This is the second or third tragedy for the family in a number of years. His uncle died very suddenly and his cousin died last year in Australia.

“It is hard for everyone and especially at Christmas time.”

Thoughts and prayers go out to Steafan’s family and friends. Rest in peace Steafan.”

Winston Moran also said, “RIP big lad you were a true gentleman, you never went a day without putting people before you I am proud to have known such a good man, you’ll be sadly missed. Thoughts are with your family and friends.”

As Steafan was a keen musician, friends posted his favourite songs on Facebook, as well as remembering his involvement in Irvinestown Youth Club.
