THE FESTIVE period was off to a great start for Derrygonnelly man and Herald GAA writer Pauric McGurn who was a winner in a Christmas sing song competition for Independent.ie
Game for a laugh Pauric, won a hamper filled with O’Hara hand crafted beer as part of series of competitions the on-line publication was running for the month of December.
Every day between December 1st to December 24th, reader were asked to send in their pictures or videos that related to whatever the title of the competition was for that day. An advent calendar was designed for readers in a prize give-away for each day.
Pauric’s sister, Nuala who lives in Laois won the competition on December 5th for her picture of her little boy and Santa together. She managed to win a 100 euros Lidl voucher for that particular day and so it was the turn of her little brother to then bag himself a prize.
So in true Derrygonnelly style, Pauric was filmed on set at his family farm signing, ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ to his beloved cattle along with his pet cat.
He explained, “When the title came up at the weekend saying, ‘Send us in a video of you singing a Christmas song’ I thought, yes I have a great cat and a few quiet cows who would make the video really stand out. – The singing bit was easy, it was getting someone to film me which was difficult.”
But thankfully he found someone to take charge of the camera and it all paid off as he won.
Pauric said, “The prize on offer was a hamper of O’Hara hand crafter beer which I will certainly now enjoy over the Christmas period. Although if a pub is looking for a singer over the Christmas period my diary is free.”
Pauric is due to get married today (Thursday) and who knows there could be a song or two at the wedding! Congratulations Pauric.
