More merger proposals hit Catholic maintained schools

ALL CHANGE.... The four Catholic maintained

ALL CHANGE…. The four Catholic maintained schools which could face merger under CCMS proposals.

The Fermanagh Herald understands that Catholic education could see a massive shake up as four post-primary schools in Enniskillen are to merge under proposals.

According to documents received by the Fermanagh Herald, proposals by CCMS will see just two single sex Catholic maintained schools. This means St Fanchea’s College will merge with Mount Lourdes Grammar school, while St Joseph’s College will merge with St Michael’s College.

If the development proposal is approved it is likely the changes to Catholic maintained education will be implemented in September 2018.

Meetings will be taking place at Mount Lourdes Grammar school, St Michael’s Grammar school, St Fanchea’s College and St Joseph’s Grammar school, with parents and staff.

A meeting was held last night at St Fanchea’s College in which plans were put forward to parents. Described as a “heated” meeting, an official told those gathered about the proposals to change the current system of education which was “strongly opposed” by those present.

A consultation is now underway which is expected to close at 5pm on Monday January 18th 2016.

Further details to follow.
