The Christmas season in Enniskillen gets under way on this Saturday (21 November) with the annual ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’.
A great programme of family entertainment has been arranged from 3:00pm in the town centre, including face painting, balloon modelling, stilt walkers and cartoon characters.
Music will be provided by the Marty Fay Band, who will perform live at the Diamond. The seasonal atmosphere will be created with a Christmas Flash Dance near the Christmas Tree at 4pm while everyone waits for the arrival of Santa’s Parade.
At 4.45pm, Santa’s Parade will leave Quay Lane car park. Led by Ballyreagh Silver Band and St Marys Silver Band, Tempo, the parade featuring stilt walkers, cartoon characters, the Aughakillymaude Mummers and of course Santa Claus and his magical train, will leave Quay Lane car park at 4:45pm and make its way along Belmore Street, East Bridge Street and Townhall Street before arriving at the Diamond. Motorists are advised to expect some traffic delays during this time.
At 5.30pm, chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly will press the button to light up the 10 metre high tree at the Diamond as well as the lights around Enniskillen. The island town will be transformed into a colourful and magical display of festive illuminations.
Speaking ahead of the Christmas Lights switch on, Councillor O’Reilly commented; “Switching on the Christmas Lights is really the start of the Christmas season. The programme of entertainment and Santa Parade has been organised to create a seasonal atmosphere and get the town into the festive spirit, and I would encourage everyone to come along on to the Diamond and enjoy this annual community occasion.”
Limited access will be available at the front of the stage for wheelchair users. Places must be reserved in advance by phoning 0300 303 1777.
The reduced parking fee of £1 for 5 hours is still in operation, making it great value to take a day in the town centre for Christmas shopping and stay for the Christmas Lights switch on.
