AN ENNISKILLEN student will run the Amsterdam Marathon this weekend to raise funds for the charity who helped his father through cancer.
Ryan Davidson, who is studying Graphic Design at Leeds University, is raising money for the ‘The Boom Foundation’, a charity based in the North who help patients suffering from synovial sacoma, a rare form of soft-tissue cancer.
Ryan said: “My dad was diagnosed with a sarcoma in May 2014 due to a large swelling on his right upper limb, over the right tricep muscle. After a course of unsuccessful chemotherapy, it was agreed that amputation was the best treatment method available and Dad had the surgery in November 2014.
“Boom provided a support network throughout treatment, introducing Dad to other individuals with sarcomas. Moreover, they assisted in ensuring various items were adjusted to meet his requirements post-op and also continue to hold fundraisers which are excellent social events.”
The 21-year-student added he was apprehensive but excited about Sunday’s marathon: “As my first marathon, it will be a massive challenge but I am massively looking forward to the experience.”
Ryan has set up a Virgin Money Giving page, where people can donate http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=RyanDavidson.
