A NON-PROFIT taking, charitable agency, based in Belcoo, that delivers care across a catchment area that stretches from Belcoo to Teemore and Newtowbutler and from Belcoo to Garrison and Derrygonnelly opened a new, purpose built ‘healthy living centre’ this week.
Representatives from South West Action for Rural Development (SWARD), who came up with the funding to complete the project, joined directors and staff of Lakeland Community Care and those involved in its planning and construction at Monday night’s official opening.
Guests were welcomed by the chairman of LCC’s board of directors – all volunteers – Noel McAllister, and the reply was made by Pat McGurn, LCC’s chief executive on behalf of the staff.
Lakeland Community Care has been operating since November, 1994 as an organisation caring for older people in West Fermanagh, serving five communities, namely – Belcoo, Garrison, Derrygonnelly, Newtowbutler and Teemore.
The new healthy living centre has been in the planning since 2011 and will operate under its brand name, ‘building for the future’.
It will act a a central hub in the delivery of accessible, high quality health and well-being services for Erne West, linking domiciliary and day care with healthy living and social engagement programmes within one building.
The new facility is aimed at developing the work of Lakeland Community Care, but it will be open to voluntary and other community groups for meetings, collaborative events and social engagements.
