A CHAMBER of Commerce is to be re-established in Irvinestown – with locals keen to address issues and promote the town in the best light possible.

A meeting has been arranged for the end of this month, with those spearheading the chamber move urging all others with an interest to attend.

Traders in the town have already shown the can work together – and back in April, they held a successful ‘Cheque it Out’ campaign.

Then, shoppers were given the chance to avail of a ‘cheque’ promotion booklet, including vouchers from participating businesses.

Each booklet contained 50 vouchers, redeemable at any of the participating stores during the two week period.

And, on the back of this campaign, one of those involved in the re-establishment of the chamber, Gerry McNamee, was upbeat about the future of the town’s ability to attract shoppers and visitors.

“One of the best kept secrets is the value for money, service, and personal attention that the business community in and around Irvinestown offer to the public,” he explained.

“Situated just 10 miles from Enniskillen and 18 miles from Omagh, Irvinestown has something for everyone.”

He said that the chamber could offer a ‘united voice’ and deal with concerns such as on street parking, traffic congestion, public order, information on available grants and business assistance.

Gerry said that he was keen that traders put their heads together around ‘peak’ times, such as Easter, Christmas and Halloween to figure out how best to boost business.

“There are many advantages of being a member of a Chamber of Commerce,” he stated, “and everyone who has an interest in forming the chamber is invited to attend a meeting in Mahon’s Hotel on Monday September 29 at 7.30pm.”
