FROM his stand-up shows, to his YouTube sketches that have collectively broken the one million hit mark nearly eight times over, Colin Geddis is rising rapidly on the Northern Irish comedy circuit.
The Belfast-based comedian takes his ‘NSFW’ (Not Safe For Work) show to the Ardhowen Theatre’s Gallery Bar tonight (Friday), where audience members can expect a collective mix of his work so far.
Colin, by his own admission, has been ‘spinning various comedy plates lately’ and currently runs a monthly stand-up gig in Lavery’s Bar, Belfast, has his own podcast, has been organising this tour, while continuing to work on his YouTube videos – as well as a new sitcom called ‘The Blood, The Mud and The Beer’.
“I’m very good at making myself appear busy,” he told the Fermanagh Herald.
Those interested in Friday’s gig will most likely know Colin from his hugely successful ‘I Am Fighter’ YouTube videos.
Prior to starting comedy, he was given the opportunity to make a video when he was studying Design and Communication at university, which prompted his love of video.
“I instantly fell in love with the process and once I graduated I continued to make videos. The first video to get any heat on youtube was ‘I AM FIGHTER’ with a character called Barry ‘The Blender’ Henderson. I was very surprised by the reaction the videos got, because I never expected them to get any sort of recognition.
“For me it was just fun to mess around and try to create something funny and upload it to Youtube. Now I have almost eight million hits.”
Colin has played in Fermanagh before, at one of Blakes of the Hollow’s regular comedy nights hosted by comedian Neil Dougan.
“I travelled down to do a spot at his comedy night,” Colin recalled, “I had a great time and the audience were lovely. I think Obama was gigging there the week after. Apparently.”
And as for what audiences can expect on Friday night?
“It’s blend of stand-up comedy and video sketches featuring some of the online characters I have created,” he explained, “It’s something that not many other comedians on the circuit are doing at the minute and it makes for a slightly different comedy experience.”
Colin concluded: “As with anything comedy related, I’m feeling a mix of excitement and sweaty panic. But I am looking forward to playing at the Ardhowen Theatre and getting to perform for the locals.”
