LATEST stills from the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Miss Julie’, filmed at Castle Coole Enniskillen have been released, showcasing the stately surroundings of the plush Fermanagh estate.
Directed by Liv Ullman the film tells the story of doomed lovers whose illicit affair ends in tragedy and stars Hollywood hearthrob Colin Farrell and actress Jessica Chastain.
While the original play by Johan August Strindberg was set in late 19th century Sweden, the big screen adaptation was brought to life at Castle Coole and was filmed last April.
Those familiar to the grand 18th century home of the Earls of Belmore will recognise some of the well-known features of Castle Coole, including the dark, underground servants’ tunnel, where the star-crossed lovers embrace and the large, spacious kitchen, where much of the filming took place.
The basement at Castle Coole was restored and opened to the public in 2008 for guided tours and art exhibitions.
During filming last year Farrell was spotted across the county and posed for photographs in Enniskillen, while Chastain upon leaving Fermanagh remarked on Facebook: “Making Miss Julie was an incredible experience. It was tough to say goodbye to the beautiful people of that gorgeous country.”
The film is set for cinema release in Autumn 2014.
