‘WALKIN’ Down The Street’, is the title of Enniskillen indie-rock band I’m Not Maggie’s latest release.
The five track album features Jimmy Farry on vocals, Stewart McKeown on guitar, Dwayne McGowan on drums and Alec McKeown on bass. The latter trio also help on vocal duties.
This release is the first since the band’s ‘Soho’ several years ago.
The disc opens with the succinct ‘Walkin’ Down the Street’, a punchy number that sets the tone for the easy listening indie tunes that follow.
Bassist Alec McKeown spoke to Music Focus this week, describing how the band has spent ‘nine months to a year’ on the album.
“The five songs this time were written by myself and Stewart. It’s a complete change from what we usually put out – there’s hints of country, bits of The Beatles – it’s a mixture of what everyone in the band likes.”
The album features five tracks: Walkin’ Down The Street, Here Today, When You Called, Up Late, and Just Don’t Care.
“I go for walks every other morning and Walking Down The Street was written on one of those walks – it was written from Tesco to my house at Derrychara, via the forum,” Alec went on.
“When You Called was written last year. I dedicated to my sister who died a month ago.
“She’d always have kept in touch, she’d always phone me up.
“So that was written for her – but she never got to hear it on the album.”
The band are planning a summer launch party for the album.
“From what people have heard – they can’t believe it’s us because the style is so different. I think we’ve grown up.
Comparing this release to their last, Soho, in 2010, Alec said:
“They’re both very good albums but I think this is sitting up that bit higher – we’re more pleased with how it has turned out.
“Down through the years I would like to think that we have progressed.”
