Portora Medallion 46
Cambridge House Medallion 10
Portora began their Medallion Shield campaign at a canter, recording an emphatic win over Cambridge House, of Ballymena at Castle Lane on Saturday.
The game which was originally due to be played in January was the perfect tonic for the young side in what has been a hit and miss season thus far.
The game began quite even, with both sides scoring tries in the opening 15 minutes to leave the game finely poised at 5-5, but that was to be as good as it got for the visitors as Portora found their rhythm and began to dictate matters. Once they got the momentum of another score it was one way traffic as the home side went into the break with a comfortable lead. In the second half further tries followed in a result that was never really in doubt after the opening 15 minutes.
Cambridge House did grab a consolation score in the second half, but it was too little too late. For the home side Conor Blackwell-Smyth, Andrew Crawford and Matthew Dane were the standouts, but it was the manner of the performance which will have pleased the coach and the players.
Head of Rugby at Portora Adrian Walker was delighted with the performance of the boys and hopes they can push on with a strong cup campaign.
“The season has been a bit hit and miss this year, but this should give them great confidence going into the Christmas break. This one win should encourage the boys to buy into it a bit more and they can really hit the ground running after Christmas.”
