Lisnaskea born visual artist Rosalind Murphy (nee Smith) has just won an award for one of her paintings from the Ulster Watercolour Society.
A few weeks ago Rosalind received the H&J Martin Prize ‘Best Landscape’ at the 37th annual exhibition of The Ulster Watercolour Society, which is currently on show in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast until 30 November.
Her prize winning painting is a scene from her home town-land of Screevagh near Donagh, where she grew up, on a quiet, frosty morning.
Rosalind has been living in Newcastle, Co Down for the past thirty plus years and is a mother of five children.
Art and painting are Rosalind’s life and as well as painting she also teaches watercolours to art groups as well as giving regular demonstrations to various art groups.
“I only joined the Ulster Watercolour Society this year and at their annual exhibition I was given the award for best landscape, which I was thrilled about” said Rosalind talking from her Newcastle home.
She explains to qualify for this award the piece of work has to have been done in the past two years.
Rosalind has exhibited her work in the past and as well as painting for her own enjoyment she also does commissions.
