TRILLICK-born country musician Gavin McAloon has launched his new album – and had a packed launch night too!
The 24-year-old, pictured, has been performing as a ‘one-man show’ for over two years, including shows in London, and has had a positive response to his debut album ‘Decisions’.
“I was always brought up with country music in the house. My father had a big influence on me as a child,” Gavin told the Fermanagh Herald this week.
“I started singing at a wee pub in Trillick called Packie’s and have been doing it ever since.
“It started out as a hobby and now it’s really my whole life.”
After releasing a single, a cover of Buck Owens’ ‘Gonna have love’, as a trail, within two days it had amassed over 1000 views on YouTube.
“You could say then I had the recording bug,” Gavin remarked.
“With that on I had been talking to a few people about recording an album and I went ahead and recorded 12 tracks in Harmony Studios, Letterkenny in Donegal.
“A few George Jones and Merle Haggard numbers worked a treat and to date I’ve sold nearly 400 albums.”
He concluded: “I named the album decisions as that’s all I seemed to be doing at the time was decisions for song tracks, cover art and I thought it fitted nicely.”
Gavin is to release another single in the coming weeks, and while working on his one-man show he also operates a three-piece wedding band and is looking ahead to 2014.
