IF YOU are easily offended, have a low tolerance for swearing or do not enjoy the rants of an opinionated 43-year-old man from Navan then Tommy Tiernan is not for you.
He is not everyone’s cup of tea as witnessed from the last time he played in Fermanagh many years ago in the Ardhowen Theatre, as some of the audience left during the show.
Tommy does indeed at times push the boundaries of normal social convention, but there is no doubting the International acclaimed comedian has that rare ability of putting the audience in stitches of laugher.
On Saturday night in Mahon’s Hotel Tommy kicked off his ‘World Tour of Fermanagh’ playing in front of a packed house in the Delany Suite.
Rather than give away the set for those heading to the Donn Caragh on Friday night, I shall simply say that Tommy is indeed ‘on form’, poking fun at everything from a Fermanagh man named Lombardo, South Armagh, through to those who have emigrated to Australia.
Tommy does not mince his words and in a two hour set, which included a 15 minute intermission he treated the audience to his full repertoire of observational, insightful comedy.
Family friendly it is not, but those in Irvinestown and indeed I am sure the Killyhevlin Hotel on Sunday thoroughly enjoyed their night, seeing a man at the peak of his powers ‘talking’ about the world in which he lives.
