Irvinestown Play
‘Where there’s a will – there’s a way’ is a three act farce directed by Irvinestown man Ted Maye and presented by Irvinestown Amateur Dramatics.
The play will be staged in Mahon’s Hotel, Irvinestown on Wednesday, July 10, and, as usual is part of the hugely successful ‘Lady of the Lake’ Festival.
“This is a three act farce full of murder, mystery and mayhem,” says Ted.
Ted explains that the play was written by himself along with Geoff Heaver and Joe O’Hanlon and was first performed back in 1996.
“We decided to put the farce on again this year in memory of local man Eamon McGarrity, who played Lambert the Butler the first time we produced the play but who has since died.”
‘Where there’s a will’ is set in a stately manor house of a recently deceased, Major Joshua McGillacuddy.
When Act One begins it’s almost 3pm and the staff are assembling to find out who the major favoured in his last will and testament.
Little do they know what surprises are in store for them, and that two unlikely fellows, Matt and Pat may be about to do rather well.
It’s night time when Act two starts and there are sinister happenings afoot. Matt McGillacuddy is the witness to some bizarre events. It’s a pity nobody else sees or believes the traumatic time he is experiencing.
Act Three begins as morning arrives and with a distinct shortage of staff, it’s time to get to the bottom of the mysterious goings on at the manor. A séance, a dead donkey and a case of mistaken identity adds just a few more twists to this sorry saga before the whole episode is brought to a shocking and revealing conclusion.
