Laughter and music coming to the Ardhowen stage

Celtic Soul

Celtic Soul

THE summer is heating-up at Ardhowen Theatre with Belvoir Players performing the very funny comedy, ‘Cash On Delivery’ by Michael Cooney from Thursday 18 to Saturday 20 July.  We have more comedy from BBC NI’s ‘Monumental’ star Micky Bartlett in the Gallery Bar on Friday 26 July and in a tribute to one of Ireland’s greatest musical exponents, Van Morrison, we have the wonderful Celtic Soul in concert on Saturday 27 July.

CASH ON DELIVERY
‘Cash On Delivery’ by Michael Cooney is a fast paced comedy, a classic of the genre and guaranteed to make your sides sore.  Son of celebrated comedy playwright Ray Cooney, Michael is now better known as a screenwriter in Los Angeles and wrote the original screenplay for the film ‘Identity’ starring John Cusack.  ‘Cash On Delivery’ was an early exploration in the world of playwriting and was very much influenced by the work of his father.  They have collaborated more recently on the West End hit play ‘Tom, Dick and Harry’.

‘Cash On Delivery’ is a riotous farce with all the ingredients for an evening of rib tickling hilarity.  Eric Swan (aided by his uncle George and unbeknown to his wife Linda) has pocketed thousands of pounds through fraudulent Social Security claims.  When the lodger opens the door to a DSS Inspector, mayhem follows – as do the undertaker, the bereavement counsellor, psychiatrist, the lodger’s fiancée, a corpse, the ominous Ms Cowper and a rather rebellious washing machine.  In her nightmare attempt at cover up, a frantic Linda meanwhile discovers ladies’ underwear among her husband’s!

Belvoir Players’ Artistic Director, Richard Mills describes ‘Cash On Delivery’ as “the funniest play I’ve ever directed!”  We always look forward to a Belvoir Players production and are delighted to have them back at Ardhowen Theatre on Thursday 18, Friday 19 and Saturday 20 July at 8pm.

MICKY BARTLETT – “GO WI MA”
Micky Bartlett is Northern Ireland’s answer to Kevin Bridges.  Only 25 years old and already one of the funniest and most popular acts on the entertainment circuit today, Micky supported Patrick Kielty at the Odyssey in 2012 and recently wowed audiences on BBC Northern Ireland’s brand new comedy panel show ‘Monumental’.

Micky visits Ardhowen with his first ever solo tour, “Go Wi Ma”, a funny and fast paced look at life, love, ladies and the fact that he is a successful comedian and grown man who is still petrified of his mother.

Reviews for Micky have been full of admiration…  “Smart, confessional, insightful, and always funny” (Big Laughs);  “Micky Bartlett is a relaxed and engaging performer.  Sharp material and sharp delivery” (Broadway Baby)
Come and see Micky Bartlett before he hits the big time, in the Ardhowen Gallery Bar on Friday 26 July at 9pm.  Audiences are warned this is stand-up comedy and contains Strong Adult Content.

CELTIC SOUL – A TRIBUTE TO VAN THE MAN AND HIS MUSIC
Celtic Soul are a talented seven piece ensemble paying homage to the music of Van Morrison with their sensitive and knowledgeable renditions of his classic hits and deeper album tracks.
As one of the greatest musical talents ever to come from these shores, Van Morrison has crafted some of the most intricate, articulate and memorable pieces of music from our time.  His own influences have had a tangible impact on countless numbers of musicians who have followed in his wake.

Celtic Soul use their own experienced musical backgrounds and instrumentation to interact with each other live on stage, creating a reflection of some of the best songs ever written by a true master of his craft.  It’s what Celtic Soul do with those chords, words and structure that delivers a performance that can only come from truly appreciating his music, playing it with passion, dynamic and skill.

With songs like ‘Cyprus Avenue’, ‘In the Garden’, ‘Days Like This’, ‘Jackie Wilson Said’ and of course – ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, ‘Celtic Soul’ will take you on a journey through the songbook of a musical legend on Saturday 27 July at 8pm.
