HAVING OVERCOME the Fermanagh Heat of the Irish Youth Music Awards, Bronagh Broderick was crowned the winner of the awards at an event in Liberty Hall, Dublin, on Saturday.
Bronagh, originally from Ballygawley, won the Paul Clancy Songwriter award for her original song ‘The Crack of Dawn’ and for covering David Donnelly’s, Enniskillen, song ‘Don’t Miss Me’.
David won ‘best song’ in the Fermanagh heat.
“We started off at about 8am – and there were no nerves at that stage,” said Bronagh, who was supported by 20-30 friends and family.
“But after we got to the venue and did a sound check, the nerves started to kick in.
“I was so happy with all the support I got and I was very proud of the performance – I think it’s the best one I’ve had so far. The whole build up to the event definitely helped.
“Well done to David for writing such a good song – I hope I did it justice,” she added.
The 19 year-old is studying Music at Queen’s University in Belfast, and hopes to ‘keep song-writing’ and play as many gigs as she can.
David, from Enniskillen, whose song, ‘Don’t Miss Me’ was sung by Bronagh described the event as ‘great’.
“It was great to hear all the different acts,” said the Portora student.
“I myself had a go on the busking stage. It wasn’t part of the main competition but it was nice to get to perform in front of that crowd.”
Also a singer in local band ‘The DMs’, David is looking to keep busy over the next few months.
A very active team of young people from the ‘Right Here Fermanagh Youth Partnership’ supported Bronagh in developing a Facebook page with jobs for all the team, a vital part of the competition.
The prize for winning this is two days in a recording studio in Dublin for all performers of the winning team which along with Bronagh and David, this also includes Adam Doherty and Cristian Mulligan.
