RUNNER Helen Stockdale is certainly keeping busy.
The Fermanagh athlete has been selected to race in the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, London, at a meet featuring the best of Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Welsh athletes.
She’s racing in the 1500m, in the morning (currently she is ranked 2nd in the UK at this distance), and the 3000m in the afternoon.
Helen commented: “It will be a challenging day racing both distances but a challenge I am relishing. It’s an individual and also a team event so every point counts.”
On St Patrick’s Day, Helen is looking to compete in the Irvinestown 10k, while at the end of March there is the Queen’s Sport 5k.
In April, she will take part in the Titanic Quarter 10k, in Belfast.
This week, Malcolm Sloan, a former international runner himself, presented Helen with asics shoes and clothing, for which she is ‘very grateful’.
She said: “Masters Athletics is generally the unsung discipline of athletics in NI and attracts little sponsorship, but with an ageing population and government encouraging a healthier lifestyle and sports participation I really hope this will change.”
