REHEARSALS ARE nearing their climax for Enniskillen Amateur Dramatic Society’s 102nd production, Calendar Girls.
Written by Tim Firth, Calendar girls is the story of how a group of women, members of a Yorkshire Women’s Institute, are persuaded to pose undressed for a charity calendar with a difference.
When Annie’s husband John dies of Leukemia, she and best friend Chris decide to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to coax Cora, Celia, Ruth and Jessie to pose naked with them for an ‘alternative’ calendar, helped by amateur photographer Lawrence.
They have no idea of the media sensation it will create, finally resulting in not only buying a settee, but a new wing for the hospital.
The cast of Calendar Girls, directed by Gillian Wilson and Ken Saunderson, includes some very familiar faces to the Ardhowen stage. Included in that are Rosie Lendrum as Cora, and Christine Irvine as Chris. Aly Finlay takes to the stage as Annie, Tracey Kernaghan is Jessie, Ciara Hambly is Celia, and Barbara Henderson takes the role of Ruth. Certainly a large cast for the society, Ena Trimble plays Marie, with Melanie Little as Brenda Hulse.
Billy Mulligan is John, and David Wilkinson is Rod. Wendy Graham takes up the part of Lady Cravenshire, Ruairi Lenaghgan is Lawrence, and Claire Irwin plays Elaine.
Jason Livingstone is Liam, while Betty McCabe will be working as the stage manager.
Sold-out in record time, for three performances before Christmas, Tim Firth’s play is very funny, quirky and poignant. It takes place between February 14 and February 16. Part proceeds will go to Northern Ireland Leukemia Research Fund.
