Fermanagh Facebook group sets membership target

A FACEBOOK group which helps connect Fermanagh people living all across the world is on the brink of reaching a ‘new milestone’ as it nears a record 34,000 members.

Enniskillen Banter Facebook Group was set up by well-known couple, Benny and Charlotte Cassidy, and it has grown and expanded significantly and is the largest Facebook group in Fermanagh.

The membership of the social media group, which increased massively during the Covid-19 pandemic, now stands at a huge 33,700 and is expected to reach the record high of 34,000 members soon.

The Enniskillen Banter Facebook Group was recently praised after it proved vital in helping a Bulgarian resident, who was moving residency to Fermanagh, to find a home in the Erne county.

A resident from Musina in Bulgaria, Neil Wooldridge reached out to the Fermanagh community through the Enniskillen Banter Facebook Group in a bid to find a rental property in Fermanagh.

Through the power of social media, Mr Wooldridge was recently contacted by a resident in the county who had information on a place to rent.

“I just wanted to say that this is the first group where I have felt there is truly a sense of community, a real good vibe and positivity and now I am so excited about the final move over in June,” Mr Wooldridge said.

“I have lots of questions ready but I thought I should pace myself so everything from Irish music, home tutoring services (learners needed!) Good Indian food, voluntary groups and of course making new friends.

“Thanks to everyone, being a member of the [Enniskillen Banter Facebook] Group has been, is and will be so rewarding and I hope that I can give back some of what has been given to me.”

Founder of the Enniskillen Banter Facebook Group, Benny Cassidy, previously told the Herald their membership stretches right across the world, including Fermanagh ex-pats living abroad.

“Going by the daily comments, we seem to have struck a cord with everyone. We laugh together and believe we will get through these dark days together also,” said Mr Cassidy.

“If I had to say what I enjoy most about the group, I’d say it’s the closeness, the great attitude and the feeling of appreciation of everyone.”
