The community in Belleek have organised a public meeting this Thursday night, September 8th to discuss the proposed closure of Bank of Ireland’s branch in the town.
The bank announced in July that the Belleek branch would be one of eight across the North set to shut its doors this autumn.
The loss of the Belleek bank means hundreds of customers with accounts in the area are facing a 50 mile return trip to Enniskillen to visit their nearest BOI branch.
The bank has said the volume of business in the branches that are to close is “insufficient to sustain them in the long term”.
Thursday’s meeting has been organised by the Belleek Chamber of Commerce and the Belleek Community Association and takes place in Belleek Community Centre (formerly Stepping Stones) at 8pm.
Organsiers of the meeting are urging all interested parties in the area to attend and discuss the way forward.
“Following a series of meetings with politicians and bank officials, the issue of the closure of Bank of Ireland in Belleek is no closer to a resolution.
“Everyone in Belleek, who banks in the local Bank of Ireland are asked to attend this very important meeting. We want our local bank to remain open and the only way to do this, is for our voices to be heard!” a spokesman said.
