Enniskillen is gearing up for what is expected to be the largest ever County Fermanagh Grand Black Chapter demonstration this weekend.
Thirty preceptories, coming from all over Ulster, are expected to take part in a procession by the Royal Black Institution through Enniskillen this Saturday, August 6th at 1pm, on Wellington Road. A similar number of bands will also take part in the procession.
Robert Dane, County Grand Master will chair the platform proceedings which will start at 2.15pm. Following this, a service of worship will be conducted by Rev Canon Mark Watson. The hosts for the event will are Chosen Few RBP 36.
People from all over will travel to Fermanagh as members of the institution taking part will include members from Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.
Motorists are advised to expect delays in Enniskillen and to add extra time on to the journey to allow for the procession.
David Black from RBP 36 said they were making significant efforts to ensure there would be no disruption to local businesses, and urged anyone attending to get into town early and to follow all police parking instructions and to use dedicated car parks.
He also advised there would be a slight diversion to the originally planned route, to ensure two happy couples tying the knot this weekend were not put out by the parade. With two weddings on, one at St Michael’s Church and the other at St Macartin’s Cathedral.
The parade will still assemble and leave from the Royal British Legion, make its way around Wellington Road towards the South West College , and turn up Belmore Street.
At the Cenotaph there will be a short ceremony and wreath laying, and then the parade will make its way up East Bridge Street, Townhall Street and High Street.
However, now instead of proceeding onwards, it will turn left at the Halifax building, and proceed down Paget Street to avoid the nuptials. From there it will make its way to Enniskillen Castle along Wellington Road.
