A Tempo man, who was charged with drug possession, claimed he used the illegal substances to dramatically lose weight.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court was told on Monday that police responded to a report of a domestic incident at Main Street in Tempo at 11.46pm on November 23rd last. When police called to the property, they got no response but found Gary Douglas (42) outside and attempting to gain access.
Douglas was arrested at the scene and while being questioned in Enniskillen Police Station, a small bag of drugs was located on the floor beside him. A subsequent search of his home uncovered a food bag containing 22.6g of a yellow powder in a kitchen cupboard.
Douglas admitted possession and was charged with two counts possessing amphetamine and Benzylpiperazine.
Defence solicitor Conor Heaney said his client, a father-of-three, was orginally from Liverpool but moved to Fermanagh three years ago.
“The yellow powder was bought as a slimming aid to help my client dramatically lose weight as he previously weighed in excess of 20 stone. He was aware that it was an illegal substance. The white powder substance was also some sort of stimulant. He had forgotten about it until police detected it falling out of his trouser pocket in the custody suite,” Mr Heaney added.
District Judge Nigel Broderick fined Douglas a total of £300 and issued a destruction order for the drugs.
