An Irvinestown man has been fined for concealing cannabis in a sweet wrapper when his case came before Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The court heard that at 12.30am on March 17th, police observed a blue Mini Cooper outside a local Spar shop with three occupants inside. Officers detected a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle and searched the three occupants and the car. During the search, police uncovered cannabis estimated to be worth £20, concealed in a red Lindt sweet wrapper. After being arrested, Owen McCann (21) of Carn Hill in Irvinestown admitted ownership of the cannabis during a police interview. He was charged with possessing a Class B Controlled Drug.
Defence solicitor Bernard Corrigan said it was a small amount of cannabis that had been discovered in the vehicle and not on his client who had acknowledged this to police.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said he would take into account McCann’s early plea, adding: “He needs to be warned that if he continues to use drugs, it won’t be a fine the next time.”
McCann was fined £150.
