THERE has been much heartbreak across Fermanagh following the tragic death of Stevie McTeague, who passed away at the South West Acute Hospital on Saturday following an accident at work.

The 51-year-old father-of-two, who will be laid to rest this morning, was originally from Omagh and was married to Fermanagh woman Helen (nee Hanna). He was the son-in-law of well known Brookeborough plumber, Thomas Hanna.

Mr McTeague was injured last Thursday in an incident at the Terex site in Killyclogher. Emergency services were called to the plant at 3.20pm on Thursday following a report that two men had become trapped under heavy machinery. Terex Finlay manufactures mobile crushing, screening and recycling equipment.

Mr McTeague was rushed to hospital in Enniskillen while the second victim was transferred to Tyrone County Hospital. He was discharged later the same day. The Health and Safety Executive has confirmed an investigation has been launched into the tragedy.

A talented amateur photographer, Mr McTeague was well known in local snooker circles. His good friend Gerry Raflewski said he was “in a state of disbelief” about the tragedy.
“A big void has been left in my life already so I can’t even begin to understand how his family is feeling,” said Mr Raflewski, who described his friend as a devoted family man who was always willing to lend a hand.

“Stevie doted on his wife Helen and his two sons Conor and Ryan and there was never a Friday night that he didn’t chat about them. I still can’t believe what has happened and I feel for his family so much.”

Mr McTeague’s requiem funeral Mass will take place this morning, Wednesday July 20, at St Mary’s Church, Loughmacrory.

He is survived by his wife Helen (nee Hanna), sons Conor and Ryan, brothers Mickey and Dessie and sisters Ann and Sharon.
