A BROOKEBOROUGH man has been fined for resisting police after getting into a fight at the Lough Erne Resort.
Niall Murphy (42) of Main Street, Aghalun, Brookeborough pleaded guilty to resisting police and disorderly behaviour at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday.
He had been arrested after police were called to reports of two men fighting at the Lough Erne Resort on Friday, March 18. When officers arrived at the scene they found both men were highly drunk and were shouting and swearing. When they attempted to arrest Murphy he resisted and they had to handcuff the defendant, who was shouting and swearing at police.
Defence solicitor Garry Smyth said Murphy, who he said was a well regarded sales man and earns £600 per week, had taken too much alcohol on the day in question and was deeply embarrassed to find himself before the court.
Mr Smyth added Murphy, who is married with a young family, regretted what had happened and had later cooperated with police. He said in interview Murphy had described his own behaviour as dreadful and had apologised to all involved.
District Judge Nigel Broderick, in keeping with the penalty he had previous imposed on his coaccused, fined Murphy £150 on both counts.
Judge Broderick added: “Hopefully this will be your last time before the court. If you appear again it will not be a fine the next time.”
