A HUSBAND charged with assaulting his wife has been remanded in custody after breaching his bail on several occasions.
Kristoff Rozwod appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Wednesday last charged with breaching bail, which he had been granted at the High Court on May 11 after previously being charged with common assault on his wife. One of Rozwod’s bail conditions was to reside at his mother’s home in Northampton, but he had returned to Fermanagh for a court hearing on Monday, May 16.
The bail breach occurred the next day, on Tuesday May 17. At approximately 2.20pm, police received a report from Maja Rozwod that her husband, who had been granted bail on the condition he did not enter the family home or contact his wife, had been at the house at Ferney Rise and spoke with her.
When police called to the home Mrs Rozwod said he had just left and, following a search, police found the defendant hiding in a bush in nearby Trasna Park a short time later.
The court was told Rozwod had previously breached his bail on several previous occasions by calling to the home, where his wife lives with his father and child. On a number of these occasions Rozwod was said to have been drinking.
During one such incident, on April 6, his wife said he had called to the house when heavily intoxicated and taken her phone and had tried to get her to withdraw the complaint against him. Mrs Rozwod said she had been drinking all day and had returned home to find her husband sleeping at the house. When he woke he was verbally abusive and pushed her into a door, slapping her head. She said he also drunkenly fell on their four-year-old child. Mrs Rozwod said he had also turned up at her place of work, which was a further breach of bail.
The court was told police were planning on charging Rozwod with interfering with a witness and common assault in the coming weeks, in relation to the allegations.
Defence solicitor Garry Smyth said the May 17 incident had happened when Rozwod, who he said had spent a significant amount of time in custody before being granted bail, had called to the home to see his father, who had failed to meet with him earlier that day. Mr Smyth said, before he was arrested, Rozwod had intended to return to England immediately.
Denying him bail, District Judge Nigel Broderick said Rozwod had been given several previous chances but had a very poor history of bail breaches, stating he appeared to be incapable of abiding by his conditions.
Judge Broderick said he was concerned that no matter what Rozwod said he would tempted to return to the family home. He remanded him in custody to appear before the court via video link from prison on May 23.
