Rosemary Barton has been elected to the Assembly.
The UUP woman was elected on the sixth count here at the Fermanagh South Tyrone count at the Omagh Leisure Centre this morning.
The election of the Erne North councillor frees up a seat on Feramangh and Omagh District Council. Yesterday outgoing MLA Alastair Patterson hinted that he could possibly be co-0pted onto Cllr Barton’s seat on the Council. After being eliminated on the fifth count yesterday evening, Mr Patterson confirmed he had been approached about the vacant seat, however he said he was still considering his options.
There are now two Assembly seats still to fill in Fermanagh South Tyrone with Sinn Fein’s Sean Lynch and John Feely, and the SDLP’s Richie McPhillips still in the running.
