SIMON COWELL doesn’t give out compliments lightly, but, last Saturday, the notoriously cranky Britain’s Got Talent judge was clearly wowed by the designer glasses worn by retired teacher, Veronica McCarron who now lives in Ballyshannon.
Veronica is a cousin of Enniskillen-based optician, Claire McElholm and it was from Claire that she bought her ‘wow factor’ glasses six months ago when she was due to audition her choir from Kilkenny Presentation School where she taught for 20 years.
She still commutes to her old school to take the choir which got through to the next round, having been given a standing ovation by the audience.
And, having bought this pair – they have a dark front and a pale pick leatherette on the sides – Veronica intends buying a fresh pair for the next round.
“She has a wardrobe of designer glasses”, Claire explained. “She was in looking for something new and stunning and saw these and purchased them. Now, she says she has her eye on a pair that’s equally stunning, by Jimmy Choo.”
As to Veronica and her choir’s actual performance, Claire said it was ‘a fabulous performance’.
“Simon referred to her as ‘the cute choir director’ and he made a point about the glasses. He obviously approved.
“Now, she’s looking for new ones and, no need to ask, I’ll be only too happy to help her choose.”
