Cathy McGovern country

Cathy McGovern has just released a new single

IT’S A BUSY time for Derrylin’s Cathy McGovern. The singer/songwriter has just released a new single and accompanying music video, which has been featured on Sky’s ‘Hot Country’ – and she has a new live DVD and album in the works.

Cathy released her first album back in 2010 and has performed extensively across Ireland, including for former England international footballer, Alan Shearer and Formula 1’s Eddie Jordan.

She is a solo act but also performs with her band ‘Cactus Creek’.

The latest single ‘Hell on Heels’ is from her forthcoming album and is a duet with her good friend and successful Dublin country singer CC Cooper.

Cathy explained: “The single reflects our light-hearted and fun loving personalities and was recorded at Harmony Studios, Letterkenny.

“The video was  filmed at various Fermanagh locations such as the Manor House Marine and the Ceili House, Monea.”

The video was filmed by Daniel Doran, who last year shot the successful Christmas video ‘Fairytale of New York by Cathy and the band, ‘Blurred Lines’.

Cathy has recently come under the radar of the Nashville elite with the offer to work with a Grammy winning producer on original material. The offer has been extended for Cathy to perform and record in Nashville which she intends to take up in 2015.

Cathy said that she is excited about the next few months.

“On the music front, I’m delighted with what’s ahead, i have gotten to know and become comfortable in my style of music.

“This was something which took a while to happen for me, I have become less concerned with what is popular at that moment and more with what suits me and what I sound good doing. This change in attitude has really made exciting things happen for me.”

To accompany the new album Cathy will be recording a live DVD with her band at the Ceile House, Monea at a date in November to be confirmed. In this stunning venue Cathy promises a fantastic night of music with a ‘Transatlantic Sessions’ feel with special guests on the night.

Irvinestown-born country musician Thomas Maguire, along with Wexford’s Fhiona Ennis, has released his latest live DVD.

Pettigo country musician Paul Kelly and band are releasing a new DVD this week.

This week Ryan Smith caught up with Sean Leonard, who is helping bring Paul Kelly and band to Kinawley...
