Country Focus: Paul set for Kinawley gig

Paul Kelly CUT 2

Paul Kelly and band perform tomorrow night

IN CELEBRATION of the 1000th anniversary of Brian Boru, from whom Kinawley GAA takes its name, Paul Kelly and band perform tomorrow night (Saturday).

The November 8 gig takes place in the Kinawley Community Centre. Prior, from 8pm, there will be traditional music with scor ballad groups as well as a video presentation on the life of Brian Boru.
Sean Leonard, who is helping to organise the invite, was delighted to have been able to secure the services of Paul Kelly, Pettigo, and his band to entertain on the night.

Paul has been on the road for over a year with his band, and played the length and breadth of the country.

Last week, the band played in Conway’s 3 in London.

Sean explained: “We’ve got from 8pm more or less comhaltas music with scor ballad groups with the theme of traditional music and we’re doing a video presentation on the life of Brian Boru. We’re then finishing off the whole night from 11pm with Paul and the band.

“It’s about looking back to our ancestors and then we’re going to celebrate,” he added.

“We hope for a good crowd early and staying on for the rest of the night.”
