Paul Kelly’s latest DVD

PETTIGO COUNTRY musician Paul Kelly and band are releasing a new DVD this week.

The musician, who has been on the road with his band for over a year, will launch his new DVD at the Mayfly in Kesh on Saturday.

The Paul Kelly Band features a further seven musicians, and has toured around the country – and across water over the past number of months

The band includes Denise Boyle on fiddle; Pauric O’ Sullivan, bass; Micky Madine on drums; Finn Morris on keyboard; Jonathan Millagan on guitar; and Karl Kirkpatrick on rhythm guitar. Dave Burke works as sound engineer, and Andy Cox as band manager.

He told Country Focus prior: “A lot of the music industry at the minute is performance yes, but also knowing your punters, talking to your punters, and if you’re back at the place a second time, remembering names and people. “90% of people tell you ‘that was great’ – if they didn’t like it, they would probably say nothing – though I did have one man who came and said to me that our tempo wasn’t right. But you will get people, no matter what you do, who don’t enjoy it – you just do your best

His new DVD will be launched on December 6 at the Mayfly, Kesh.

“A lot of the videos are already getting great reaction on Sky channels,” Paul explained.

“We have 10 songs recorded at different location around Ireland. When you release a single now u have to do video for it as well so I had fair few singles done so then I decided to do few more.”

The DVD also features a duet with his mum, Bernie.

At the launch night, there will also be performances from Patricia Maguire, Bernie Kelly and Country Roads, Karl Kirkpatrick, Dylan Johnston and Lauren McCutcheon.

New UK album in March for Nathan

Nathan Carter - St Macartin's Cathedral, Enniskillen

COUNTRY STAR Nathan Carter will release a new album in March of next year.
Entirely for the UK market, Nathan’s new album will feature four new songs – as well as hits from previous records.

Nathan was speaking to Country Focus while promoting his new Christmas album – and a fundraising gig in St Macartin’s Cathedral in Enniskillen.

He is releasing his first Christmas album on December 5.

“The next album will just be just in the UK. And we’ll be having my first major tour in England,” he explained.

“The album’s nearly finished actually. There’s four original songs and because it’s for the UK market, there’ll be songs from other albums like Wagonwheel – as well as having the four new songs.”

As for the style of the new songs?

“It’s slightly more modern. I’m still trying to keep the country and the trad aspect into it but it would be slightly more modern. Hopefully it’ll still appeal to all the people who have bought the music before; you’ll still be able to tell it’s me.”

Nathan’s next local show is in St Macartin’s Cathedral on December 15.

“We’re really excited about that. We’d a lovely time last year at that gig. It was a different sort of gig. This year we’ll be doing a lot of Christmas songs from our album. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to since we did it last year.

“We’re doing a lot more acoustic stuff, it’s a nice setting especially when all the candles are lit.”
