Our beauty blogger Catherine McCurry takes a look at the benefits of juicers and blenders….
I WOULD absolutely recommend investing in a blender or juicer as a good way of following and keeping to a healthy lifestyle.
Juicers and blenders have become hugely popular over the last few years mostly because of the celebrity juicing fad.
Us mere mortals soon discovered the latest trend in celebville and wanted a slice of what the A-list stars have.
Supermodels like Miranda Kerr swear by the benefits of juicing fruit and vegetables into a mega-mix of vitamins, protein and goodness.
It’s a quick and easy way of putting all your favourite foods together for a morning or afternoon energy boosting snack.
There are so many different blenders and juicers available but you don’t have to splash out too much on one as some retail for around £15 and these are great if all you want is a simple healthy juice.
However, if you want to invest in the large juicers then the Nutri Juice – which is priced at £149.99 – is a great for whole fruit and vegetables.
It means minimal cutting and the residue is deposited into a separate container.
Juicing is a great for your health, it’s all natural and contains no processed foods and you know exactly what is going into your system. It’s a great booster for your immune system, improves your skin and helps weight loss if used with a balanced diet.
If you take a look at your diet, when you eat and your lifestyle and work out when you will have time to juice it will make it easier to fit this into your routine.
Shakes and juices are quite filling, so always have one prepared and drink it between meals.
When you use a juicer for the first time, start with fruits and vegetables that you are used to and like. Try out different combinations to find out which is your favourite and then introduce other vegetables such as kale – which is packed with protein – and ginger which gives juices a kick to its taste.
Save yourself some time in the morning and prepare the fruit and vegetables by washing, cutting and placing them in a container and leaving in a fridge overnight.
Juices generally keep for around two days if kept refrigerated.
Be creative with juices and try out some more exotic fruits like passion fruit, mango, pineapple and coconut.
I particularly like a healthy juice boost after a workout and mix celery, orange, strawberries, blueberries, spinach and some powder protein.
I don’t believe in using this as a replacement meal as I enjoy food too much and would get hungry quickly and would be likely to give into fatty foods.
It’s £20 well invested.
