Belcoo man Brendan Dolan progressed to the second round at the PDC World Championship last night (Sunday) as he earned a 3-0 victory over England’s Colin Osborne, who won the preliminary round earlier in the day
Number 15 seed Dolan, who clinched two titles world ranking titles in November averaged 97 in a dominant display to set him up for the rest of the tournament.
He won the opening set 3-1 helped by a checkout of 118. ‘The History Maker’ though, needed to go to a deciding leg in the second set helped by a superb finish of 167.
The win sets up a second-round meeting with Gary Anderson.
Speaking after the match Dolan commented:
“Colin hasn’t had a great year, but on any given day he can destroy you and I knew that, so I had to be at my best,”
“I didn’t feel totally comfortable up there and I think there’s a lot more in my scoring, but my finishing was very good.
“I’ve worked hard at my darts to get this far and I’ll work harder to get to the top. I do believe I will get to the top.”
Scottish player Anderson reached the final at the 2011 Championship but on current form, Dolan is capable of progressing to round three at Alexandra Palace for the first time.
