Erne Wrestling Club was represented last weekend at the NI Open Freestyle Wrestling Championships by Mark Conner and Mel McTeggart.
Both wrestlers went up in weight class and wrestled their very best to medal in a very tough competition.
Mark Conner earned the silver medal in the senior 74Kg category while Mel McTeggart earned the bronze in the senior 84Kg category.
Wrestlers from Wales and across Ireland, North and South participated in a high quality tournament hosted by the Northern Ireland Wrestling Association.
The hard work, dedication to training and developing the techniques to wrestle at a high level is paying dividends to these wrestlers and everyone participating with Erne Wrestling in Enniskillen and Kesh.
Both Mark and Mel definitely stepped up their quality this tournament to earn these medals. This will only lift their confidence for the coming events including the British Senior Open Championships to be held in Sheffield, May 11.
April was a busy month for Erne Wrestling and our partner club Immortal Fermanagh MMA. Neil Walmsley from Kesh took part in his first K1(kick-boxing) event going the distance and narrowly missing out on a decision away from home in Meath. Always a very difficult task.
Early inApril, Christy Sweeney went to Twickenham for the English Junior Championships and brought home the silver medal. Another very big accomplishment and mile stone for Christy and the club.
Erne Wrestling is dedicated to giving everyone of any ability the opportunity to take part in one of the oldest recognised sports in the world. Whether someone is interested in general fitness and healthy lifestyle or up to international competition in any of the grappling/martial arts disciplines, Erne Wrestling and Immortal Fermanagh MMA will do their very best to ensure the opportunity for it to happen.
