FIVEMILETOWN’S Chris Farrell is to leave Ulster at the end of the current season to join French side, FC Grenoble.
The former Irish U20 international has agreed a one-year deal with the side, coached by former Irish International Bernard Jackman, currently lying fifth in the Top 14.
Farrell, who has made five appearances for Ulster was one of the exciting talents to flourish at Ravenhill in recent seasons.
Last season was expected to be a breakthrough year for the former Clogher Valley Youth player however a ruptured ACL left him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
Farrell played for Ulster against Scarlets in Llanelli early in the season but then suffered a broken bone playing for Ulster Ravens. He is currently working his way back to full fitness but is unlikely to feature before the end of the season.
Ulster currently have an abundance of riches in midfield and that no doubt influenced the 2011 Schools’ Cup winner to head for pastures new.
The length of the deal leaves the door open for Farrell to return to his native province in the not too distant future should the opportunity arise.
