St Patrick’s GFC clubhouse in Donagh has been badly damaged by an overnight fire.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at about 11.00 pm last night.

The fire officer in charge of the operation said about a quarter of the building had been destroyed.

Victor Spence said the cause of the fire was under investigation but at this stage it is not thought to be suspicious.

Four fire appliances and up to 20 firefighters tackled the blaze.

The fire started in the rear of the building and damaged a kitchen and store room area.

No-one was in the building at the time and there were no injuries.

A spokeswoman for the club said the alarm was raised by a committee member who noticed the fire late on Tuesday night.

She said they were waiting on fire crews to return to the clubhouse on Wednesday to assess the damage to the remainder of the building.
